don't know about all over the UK but nightclubs struggle to maintain their licenses as the local council are constantly on their case to close them down.
Nah, they now get popped up on super strength larger and smack as it's cheaper than extortionate night clubs.

Plus we no have night bars, which are pretty much night clubs re-badged.
saucepan lids = kids ( I hope)
Yay, I think I've got one right

Pubs/bars stay open later. I work above a club and the amount of complaints they receive because of the noise.
I think it's partly that people are online so much nowadays. Things like Tinder help you meet people for sex, so you don't have to hang around with your mates in a dark club while you eye up other lads/girls.
I don't know if the sole nightclub in my town that I went to in teens is still open, but way back then it was mostly filled with relative oldies (my age now) who wanted a late drink. I can't imagine they're still there, or that younguns want to go there now.
People only really went to nightclubs because they stayed open later. Now that advantage has gone, there is no reason to go.

But pubs and bars are closing at an alarming rate too. Social habits mean that people are less likely to leave their homes. Because:
- Drinks at a tenth of the price of clubs,
- Food delivered to your home
- Latest films and tv series on stream
- No rest of the public to spoil your evening.
The main street which leads to the town centre here in Northampton is full of pubs with new ones opening up.
Ummmm,
Then Northants is bucking a national trend.
4 pubs a day, or over 1200 pubs a year are closing nationwide.

You forgot, you can have a fag/spliff in your own home, gromit. (for now)
I live close to town so only really know this area. They could be shutting in other parts.
Ummmm,

Apparently things are improving in Northampton(shire).

Two years ago there were 40 closed pubs, and now there are 30.
