I have a Coolpix 5200 and the battery compartment door no longer shuts as the tiny plastic catch broken off, has anyone got a clue as to how much this will cost to fix and if it can be fixed?

I doubt that it's worth repairing but you can find out the cost by phoning 0330 123 0932 (M-F, 0900-1700, calls charged at the same rate as normal '01' numbers).

DIY, perhaps?

might look naff but you tried gaffer tape to hold it shut, i know the're sprung to a degree
I have the coolpix 3100 and the same thing happened, I took it to a camera shop but they said that it wasn't worth fixing as it would cost so much, shame because altho' I have had it for years it is still a great little camera. However a friend managed to solder the catch back on and I am one happy bunny. There are some really good tips on Buenchico's link tho' which seem worth trying first as I think the soldering was a bit of a faff. Hope you get it fixed.

Thanks all your replies, I have some silver coloured duct tape in the shed so will try that first, pity Nikon couldn't have done the job properly and put a decent catch on in the place.
