Hi
For several years I took Simvastatin for high cholesterol with no side effects. A couple of months ago the practice nurse at my GP's surgery decided to change the tablet to ATORVASTATIN, since the change I have noticed that my joints ache more as do my legs.I have osteoarthritis and two replacement knees and until I changed tablets all was fine. Does anybody have an opinion on whether the change of tablet might cause these aches and pains ?? Many thanks

I went to the pharmacist about simvastatin and atorvastatin when they changed mine, and his opinion was that it was the price, the government wants the cheapest, so the doctor started to prescribes the atorvastatin. That was his opinion, not mine, but sounds sensible if they both work.
Annie.
Rightly or wrongly,I stopped them altogether 4 months ago, never felt better,no aching legs,no tiredness, apparently there is an argument For and Against about Statins.I get my Cholestorol checked regularly.so far,so good.
Thanks once again for all the answers folks. Saw the practice nurse on Friday and asked her about the tablets. She changed them back in August 2014 ( I thought it was last year !) and said that yes, they could affect the muscles but not the actual joints. It was just me looking for a reason - guess it must be the cold weather !
