Have you checked the trash bin, if you've deleted it from there you'll need some recovery software and to stop using the machine as you stand a chance of overwriting it every time the disk gets used. Chuck and the like have recommended recovery software before, have a search of the site

Recuva is very good, but it's for windows, not a mac.

What kind of device did you lost data from? If it is android device, you may rely on retrieval app
