And fat blocks £2.20 each.
Since when did feeding wild birds become so costly?

Pets at Home is expensive, Sandy. Have you got a Poundland?

There's at least one here. I'd not thought of them.
or Home Bargains? Just bought a tub of 50 for £4.99
Although, the fat balls are roughly 30p each. Not too bad.
50 for 4.99 is excellent, Ganges.
Was what I thought. How much to get the bits and make your own ?
Make your own!
you can get 50, 90gram balls from wilko for £5 in a tub.
Maybe the manufacturers suspect it's being used as ersatz black pudding and hiked the price to profit from the superfood craze. :-)

I'll give this a try. They'd probably be a lot cheaper.

I'm not going to be chanting any dark incantations as I melt the suet. And if water is needed to soften the mix I'll use some from the font in my local chapel to counter any Wiccan wizardry.
Ive made fat balls many times, we used to keep them in the freezer until required, we used to put any manner of dried foods in them, the quantities aren't important as long as there enough suet to bind them together. Be inventive!
I usually pick up a pack from various shops when I see them, if not too dear.
Last week I picked up a pack of six from Robert Dyas, at £1.00 a pack, they seem like good quality with plenty of black sunflower seeds in the mix.
The larger poundland/poundstretcher type shops sell fatballs 100 for a fiver.
All the cheap shops sell fat balls and other stuff for the birds to eat, no need to pay Pets at Home extortionate prices at all.
I managed to buy a 20kg sack of sun flower hearts for £23-00. I looked in Homebase yesterday and a 4kg bag was over £8-00. My local garden centre is even more expensive.
