With all the do' and dont's on various websites and advice from various outlets. I am wondering, would anybody who is, or has been pregnant, deprive themselves of a very occasional (once in 6 weeks or so) steak or favourite piece of red meat.

Ok, I dont think you need to worry about the the occasional steak, though.
cloverjo - I agree - red meat is full of protein and as long as its good quality I can't see a problem. I no longer eat red meat but did while pregnant and I would say probably at least 5 times a week. My 4 babies were not overly large and I didn't gain a huge amount of weight while carrying them.
You are now advised to limit your intake of liver in pregnancy. But a decent beef casserole can only do you good.
That was advised at least 20 years ago. I had a craving for it, so ate it anyway.
I think that's something to do with Vit A in large quantaties being bad for the baby.

I had a craving for Smash mash and beans :-(
Crispy duck, milk, satsumas and penny sweets... :-)
I think yours are younger than mine, Pixie, I'd never even tried crispy duck when I was pregnant with my eldest (23) Had it for dinner tonight though :-)
Nice :-). That one is 20 now...
I probably just wasn't adventurous :-) It would have been a waste of money anyway, food never stayed in my belly for very long.
I upped my intake of steak when I was pregnant with the things - I was so ginormous there wasn't any space for food so I had a fillet steak every week as a 'proper' meal.
Never heard of 'no red meat for pregnancies' over here. That must be a British thing. How does the babe get nutrients like protein and iron? Obviously you shouldnt over indulge in anything but a healthy balance of most foods, including red meat, isnt a worry.
