Basically, the problem is that at the moment I have no form of ID... Ive never owned a passport or a drivers license and all of our utilities bills are in my boyfriends name. I have a bank account that was set up years ago (before regulations were so strict!) but im overdrawn and when i start my new job in a weeks time I could really do with a brand new account that wont reclaim my money before Ive seen it! Any ideas? Im applying for a driving license at the moment but it wont arrive in time.

Do you have any kind of official letter with your name and address on it - say, from the tax office or benefits agency? What about a payslip - does that have an address on?

Ask in your bank for a BASIC bank account. There are specific bank accounts specifically designed for people on benefits for example who have no address (and therefore no ID) etc and they may be able to offer you some form of bank account purely for your wages. Do you have any medical Cards, Birth Cert (you can apply for a copy ), Perhaps you could use your other bank statement as ID, trust me other banks arent that interested if you have another account thats overdrawn (i do!!) unless you have any CCJs or you owe them money other than the agreed overdraft of course.

Good luck

Can you not open a bank account at your boyfriends or your parents bank? Maybe they could vouch for you.

"It can't be Fraud, Mrs Jones from doon the road says it was OK."

Even for a savings account you'll need ID although there won't be the credit search. You must have some form of ID such as a birth certificate. If you're just a bairn then the ID requirements are less strict : if you're an adult then it's tougher.
Utility bills can easily be changed to both your names and your first wage could be paid into your bf's account until you're on your feet.
If you're sure you & your boyfriend are a settled item why not ask one of the utilities (gas, electricity) to put future accounts into your name as well. All it needs is a letter to them signed by you both, explaining that you need this done for future proof of identify/address.
stevie21 - I said that as that is what happened when my son opened a bank account, he opened it at my bank and all I did was sign a form with the details of my account. He was under 16 though.
i think a notice of your Tax Coding from the Inland Revenue can be used as ID

Get your self a passport, its not rocket science.

Altrenatively, use your old account and pay them the overdraft, after all its not your money and how would you feel if they didnt pay you money that was owed to you.

Have an honest day.

Stuart- Thans for that well thought out advice. Surprisingly enough that would be my first option if it was possible. I also wouldnt be on an advice site if it was that easy.

Thanks though to all of you who've used a bit of intelligence to try to help me, its much appreciated.

Stuart, my advice to you would be to find something a bit more constructive to do with your day than posting on a site that asks for informed answers rather than the type of sarcasm you seem to favour.
