I have my oil in something like 20 years however boiler has been changed 3 or 4 times so it is running well.

However my hearing allows me to hear dull, drummy sounds, and this past while back in fact a way good back I am hearing the dully sounds. I even hear them when I am in bathroom as pipe runs outside the wall. When I turn the oil off - the sounds go away.

A little bit annoying if I may say so - so my plumber nephew will be up sometime in a few weeks can I ask him a stupid question in that the noise be turned down. Thanks

The sound is the oil pump running, you can't turn the sound down.
Insulate the oil pipe work?
Question Author
are you better with getting gas in.
If you are already set up for oil why would you want to go to the expense of changing to gas? It would cost a lot of money to change.
As woofgang says you could probably just get the oil pump insulated to stop the noise or at least make it run more quietly.

sorry - late in thanks - will hopefully remember to ask nephew to insulate oil pump as I have never heard of such a thing.
You've changed your boiler 3 or 4 times in 20 years?

And what do you mean when you say you turn the oil off?
Do you even have mains gas? We have to buy bottled gas for our house in Ireland.
No mains gas in NI, it would have to be bottle gas.
I thought not but was sure about NI. We only have a gas hob and 1 fire that runs on gas. The central heating is oil.

there is mains gas here as far as I know the company is Phoenix - they are are everywhere digging up the roads - running the pipes under the road and into your house. There are 13 houses in my cul-de-sac and 10 have all changed to gas. I have no intention of changing as I am very happy with the oil and now the price of it now I may get a top up - £260 for 9 litres compared with I think I paid in £500 in May.
