What constitutes atheist faith?
A belief that the universe came from nothing without a cause?
A belief that inert chemicals suddenly sprang into life?
Any others ?

Naomi you write - Grasscarp, I repeat – when and where it started is irrelevant. No it isn't. You said the source is Islam. Source means origin.
Much as you want religions to be the beginning middle and end of every evil in the world it isn't the case.
Grasscarp, surely 'evil' is a religious concept so must have started with religion.
Grasscarp, in retreating to petty semantics in order to bolster your argument, I’m not sure what you’re attempting to say. That history negates the current problem?

//Source means origin.//

It does indeed – and in the 21st century the vast majority of cases of FGM – I’d venture to suggest all - originate with Islam. That is the ‘source’ of the dilemma we face today and the sole reason that organisations, such as the one you mentioned, exist. If Islam didn’t exist, neither would they.

//Much as you want religions to be the beginning middle and end of every evil in the world it isn't the case.//

And much as you want to excuse religion its abysmal failings, unfortunately for you, in this instance it is the case. Islam is the common factor here – there can be no doubt about that. I don’t “want” religion to be the beginning middle and end of every evil in the world, as you claim – I am simply rational enough to acknowledge its culpability for the evil it does promote and condone – and this is one such example. Do you actually realise what you’re defending?

Lumping Christianity together with all other beliefs under the banner of religion is the first error and prevents a meaningful dialogue on here.
Would you include Satanism as well?
Who is your question to, Theland? Both Grasscarp and I have lumped all religions under the banner of ‘religion’, but since I can only speak for myself, I don’t see why you think a failure to separate Christianity from the rest prevents a meaningful dialogue here. It’s no more special than any other, including Satanism. They’re all a product of vivid imagination.

So is the head of the Church Of England, the Queen, as thick as two short planks as you infer of all believers?
@Theland

I can't say I have ever seen naomi put the words "Christian" and "stupid" in close proximity before now, nor in this thread. Certainly not in the context you have just used.

And, for what it is worth, infer is what one does when one reads meaning into the words of another, or into a set of empirical data.

Imply is what one does when one uses a combination of words which, at face value, have one literal meaning but with the intention of conveying something else - even completely the opposite - which, as above, the reader is supposed to infer.

The Bible is "literally true", except when it is 'clearly' being figurative, etcetera.

Theland, //So is the head of the Church Of England, the Queen, as thick as two short planks as you infer of all believers? //

There goes your vivid imagination again.
