NO you would definitely NOT be wasting your time. Not sure of the monetary value of a can but as a Nation we produce thousands of tons of recycled aluminium and steel. There is a purpose built factory for aluminium can recycling in Warrington. This in turn saves on thousands of tons of imported raw materials. Your charity WILL make some money too. So go ahead.

A few years ago, we took our daughter on a theraputic course, cost Two Thousand Pounds, we raised threequarters of that by collecting ally cans, I can't remember how much we got on weight, but if you've got the patience, it can be worth it.

The figure 600.00 a ton rings a bell for aluminium, not sure about steel though, but I'm sure someone will know.
My primary school did this a few years ago to raise school funds although not the most profitable way to raise money it was one of our best ideas. The kids really got into it in a big way collecting cans at home, school and on the way to schhol. They learnt a huge ammount about recycling and the environment.Yes its worth doing
