Some time ago I posted a question on whether it is safe to delete docs from various directories and philhyde kindly replied that it all right to delete the contents of the directory temp so long as my swap files are not there. How do I know whether they are there or not? Many thanks.

By default swap files will be created in the root directory. If you try to clear the temp directory and files are in use then you will get an error anyway. If you are still unsure then within windows control panel you have the option to not use a swap file at all (not recomended though). If you think that this may be a problem then disable the swap file, trash the temp folder and then turn it on again.
