I'm going for this in 2011; anyone tried the e-cigarettes? Wondering if they're worth investing in? Figure if I invest £20 or so I'm more likely to persevere with it. I can't smoke at work - apart from a huddle out in the rain & snow, which I don’t really enjoy, that is just habit [and the need for a nicotine fix]. I’m usually OK in the car. My worst time is relaxing at home, either on the PC, with a drink or watching TV. I'll get something from the doc, maybe gum or patches. Just wondered if anyone's tried the electronic ones or is that a waste. [Please don’t tell me all the health benefits & cash savings; I know how much I’m wasting in smoking]

never heard of them and so "googled" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7658603.stm

link probably won't work but hey ho.

Good luck with the quitting. Never give up on giving up x
Morning Kia. I thought that the NHS was giving out free patches etc on Jan 1st (or thereabouts) for anyone who genuinely wants to quit. Always worth a try. A friend tried acupuncture and it worked. Another friend tried hypnotherapy and it also worked. A lot really depends on willpower doesn't it? I need to lose weight and have decided to "go for it". Hopefully, I can do it this time. As I say, it's willpower isn't it? Which do you want more, the ciggie or to give up? Good luck Kia. Think positive my dear. ... Keep us informed on this site and post an update on 31st Jan. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Thanks folks, will let you know. Anyone else giving up?
I gave up in june kia so far so good
I packed in smoking nearly 4 years ago after smoking 20 a day for 40 years. Bought some nicotine patches from the chemist, put all my fag money in a jar, watched it mount up. Never thought I'd be able to do a xword or speak on the phone without a fag in my hand but I did. After about 3 weeks the cravings had gone, weaned myself off the patches and haven't wanted a fag since. I look at the prices of fags in the shops and think what a waste of money they are!

Found that sipping fresh orange juice replaced the habit of smoking, try it.

Good luck, if you really want to stop now do it. Set a date and cut down until then AND ON THAT DATE STOP!

If I'd realised how easy it could be I'd've given up years ago! Go for it, good luck.
My son bought the e-cigs and thought they were very good for a while but he seems to have gone back to the ciggies now :-( He said the main time they're really helpful is when he can't be bothered to go outside for a smoke.
My wife and I stopped in April 2002 Kia. We both smoked 40 a day and Mrs A started when she was 8 and I was 9. When I had a business I smoked 80+ a day for 12 years!

We both stopped smoking overnight using will power alone. It wasn't easy - but there's no easy way to stop smoking. We didn't use any of these aids as it all depends on will power at the end of the day. What did work for us was selecting a date 4 months ahead (my birthday in April). The prospect of stopping in four months time didn't scare us like stopping in two weeks did. That was too quick and scary. By the time April came around we had conditioned ourselves so much that we couldn't wait to stop!

That's what worked for us. I would say give that a try rather than waste money on these substitutes and aids. Set yourself a target date in the spring and work towards that. Also spend the time out and about in the fresh air or doing things where you wouldn't normally smoke anyway. That way you won't miss them so much.

Good luck.
I had hypnosis 15 years ago, and haven't had one since..
