I used to think this and I still like it when we get little bursts of extreme weather. I think the reason why people get in a big flap about it is because -unlike other countries that have weather like this all the time- we are not prepared for it.
Where we live, most people have been pretty much snowed in so you have to buy a few days bread & milk because the deliveries cant get in, you also need the car full of fuel in case you get stuck and need to keep the heater running to stay warm.
It is sensible not to take chances if you are older and go out only if you have to, having looked at the forecast for the next week. Saw several people fall over in our village this morning and one of them ended up hospitalised. Not worth risking a broken bone for seniors.
I have been panic buying bags of ice cubes.
Loaded about 50 bags into the back of my 4 by 4.
Splashed a few pensioners with slush on the way home.
They are slower on the iced over pavements and don't get out of the way do fast.
Well I wouldn`t call it the first sign of snow, since 19th december I haven`t seen a clear patch of ground outside my house, had bad fall on boxing day and been housebound since!! Son inlaw is shopping for me every other day, but I am not stocking up just getting what I need and he can carry.(Its a foot deep here now)
** starts "panic" shopping list for tomorrow **

case of white wine
popcorn from Blockbuster
copy of Grazia

Erm ... I think that's about it.
Just on local news that farmers are throwing away 100,000 litres of milk as the tankers cannot get to them to empty the farms. It has to be collected with 48 hours of milking or unusable

Local supermarket also shown completely empty of milk
thank goodness we have doorstep deliveries from a local dairy farm!!! I have always shopped for a month ahead, no matter what the weather, it's cheaper to buy alot of things in bulk, i last shopped on 18th december though, and so things are getting abit low, but we've enough in bar bread to last another week or so, and we don't use much bread anyway.
I emptied my freezer for Christmas and now the cupboard is bare. I do a week's shopping at a time but I can't get to the shops in my car and don't want to drag the kids out anyway. Time to write the list for OH to get tomorrow!
