..completing my first ever 50 mile bike ride! Whilst I’m pleased, it’s not the main reason for my post.
I have witnessed some diabolical driving today on several occasions. Just outside Corwen a Police car and ambulance passed me at speed with sirens blaring.
As someone who works in an Operating Theatre I’m fully aware of those implications so I’m asking everyone to please be a little mindful of how we’re driving.
Yes, we all want to get to wherever in such great weather but let’s get there SAFELY.
Enjoy the rest of your B/H weekend and as I’m working tomorrow I don’t want to see ANY of you ending up at my place!
Take care.

I'm a careful driver. I got knocked off my bike when I was kid by a man opening his van door and I was cycling past. I landed on the other side of the road, luckily no cars were coming.

I thought you were a more serious cyclist than that.

I am.....but I’m knocking on a bit now(52) so I just enjoy every ride, regardless of the distance!
It’s more for the health benefits as much as anything, I’ve used my car once in the last 6 weeks.
Well done for your bike ride. I don't drive, but when I am out I always keep a careful eye out for traffic.
We went for a very long walk (a stroll turned into a 2 hour hike). Walking back along the road for the last 2 miles was scary.
Today we walked the dogs and then had breakfast - dropped the dogs off and went for a 5k speed walk - took 50 mins and now my legs are really sore!!
Just lit the bbq and will put some chicken and burgers on then will enjoy a gin and tonic tonight whilst watching some TV
There is a major cycling event going on where I live. You can’t move for Lycra.

You have my sympathy DS they are a pain in the butt
you must be wearing it too tight, Baldric...
That's a cracker. :-)

Thank you marval.
wish cyclists would not ride 4 abreast !! small country lane, made no effort to allow me to pass.. GGGRRRR !

I nearly 'bagged' one yesterday. Normal 2 lane rural road, 3 of the idiots coming towards me, 3 abreast, the outside one riding 'hands free' and drifted over to my side of the road then yelled abuse at me when we had a near miss,
Moron!!!
Many congrats. Chilldoubt. It's important to keep challenging yourself.
On the speeding issue - we live in a small village in the Yorkshire Wolds and speeding is a huge issue, but we can't get the powers-that-be interested because our traffic-flow is below a minimum. Just a few hours ago a motorbike club came whipping past our house (blind bend not far away). They were zipping past at at least 60mph (30 limit) then some more appeared so I thought I'd do something about it and I went out and stood in the middle of the road, moving into their line as they whipped around the bend and making 'slow-down' motions.

It was a bit nerve-wracking, but it worked and, to be fair, when I mouthed 'Thank you' they acknowledged. Hopefully the message will get through as far as our village is concerned at least.

Yes, I do agree that those who don’t cycle to the Highway Code need taking to task, but so do the tiny minority who for some inexplicable reason think it’s ok to verbally abuse me ‘for a laugh’ or make a ‘witty’ comment as they pass me. I’ll always wave a driver on if I’m on the blind bend and it’s free for them to proceed and always get thanked by 95% of motorists(because I’m one of those too) because it’s all about cooperating and sharing the road.
Thanks jourdain2 and yes, you have my sympathy on that issue too.

I'm 52 this year as well...and a cyclist. But a 50 mile bike ride would finish me off. Nothing to say Chill except well done. I would have been in an ambulance after (or possibly before) 10 mile.
I doubt I'd make it to the end of my street :-D
I used to bike for miles in an old three speed ladies shopper bike. It carried my tools and glue; just about. I did it for a year. Got quite fit. Then got a car, all down hill from there. Nailit you rebellious fag sucker, choose another avatar, maybe one with a cake...

LOL, cheers nailit.
I ditched the Melvyn’s some 25 years ago and used chips as a nicotine substitute so the bike keeps that in check these days!
I bought a bike 10 years ago. I only went out on it twice, both on a Saturday morning when I thought it would be quieter, but never again. I can't imagine why anyone would want to ride a bike in this country. Mad drivers, bad roads and ugly looks from everyone. No thanks.
