Is your flat mate a gambler? I'd be prepared to offer him/her a £100 bet that he/she is talking rubbish!

I've been researching answers in AB's 'Travel' section for the past 5 years. While I'm prepared to accept that fares on some low-volume, short-haul routes, operated by budget airlines, might drop shortly before travel, I've hardly ever come across medium/long-haul flights experiencing price reductions in the final month or two before departure.

The answer to your question about the best time to book is 'several months ago'!

I'd be interested to know which airline you're planning to fly with as, to the best of my knowledge, there are no direct scheduled flights from the UK to Las Américas Airport in Santo Domingo. Your best flight options (although I've not actually checked on connections) are probably with American Airlines, Air France or Delta.

thankyou chris, I have flown there once before with air europia and did actully get quite a good price and only had to wait a couple of hours at mardrid before going to santo dominago. But this time it's a nightmare, i can find flights but they include an over night stay in some random country. I don't really have a airline that i wanna fly with, just the cheapest really. Thanks hun, think immma book it tonight though expidea as they seem to have the best prices. Hope your having a good weekend.
P.s i knew that might be the case with my flat mate, i don't think he really wants me to go as he's having to move out becasue of it.
We've booked now for February for Spain - you can gamble that there will be seats nearer the time, but there might not be. I'd rather know I have the seats, and on one leg we got the last 2 seats at that price. I'd always rather book as soon as they go on sale, I would fret if I hadn't got a flight as the date got nearer.
