Pretty effective but seriously!
Have just return from Goa where the mozzies have a birthday on the Brits.... We use a number of products, Most of these are purchased here Before you are attacked spray AUTAN (from Home Bargins) AFTERBITE ( from Boots) and a cream ANTHISAN, but they are products are normally can be purchased abroad. Most problems are caused either early morning or after the sun at dusk time....and are attracted by perfume so either smell or spray
don't know how you like marmite but if you can manage a slither on a piece of toast every day for a fortnight before you go,and if you can while there,it will help protect you,the yeast comes out of your pores repelling the mozzies, don't worry, humans cant smell you!i did it for dom rep and was fine!also heard avons suncream for some reason has something in they don't like.
DEET. The only thing that really worked for me when out in SE Asia. Originally developed by the United States Army, following its experience of jungle warfare during World War II.

Available in different strengths.
I use Avon skin so soft.

Apparently it has an ingredient in it that the mozzies do not like and repelled them.
It is the fresh and soft and used to be in a green and white bottle.

I have also heard of people taking garlic tablets and vitamin b tablets coupla weeks before travelling. The smell of the garlic and vit b gets into the blood stream and again the mozzies don't like it.
Nothing is as effective as DEET ;-)
I used to get bitten a lot by mozzies on holiday. The nurse at our GP suggested Vitamin B tablets (one a day from about a week before you go). I don't know if that is the cure, but I very rarely get bitten now.
I have found that the best thing to do is to prevent mosquitoes from getting at you indoors. If in an area where you cannot control this (in or out of doors) then use a repellent. I have used Mosquito Milk (active ingredient is citronella) to good effect and I hear the Avon Skin So Soft is very good. The subject has cropped up several times on AB, particularly in connection with malaria - see Question724302, for example. In malarial countries it is worth taking the precautions I have suggested, and if they are maintained there is in my opinion no need to take tablets.
I'm allergic to Deet. However, I am led to believe that Jungle Formula is the best. Other than that, you could try eating yeasty foods such as marmite every day for a fortnight before you travel and for every day that you are away.
Live in Burnley. You will not get mosquito bites.
^ I like your logic...
I too use Avon skin so soft, the dry oil body spray in the green colour. I used to get bitten a lot, the summer before I started using skin so soft I had 30 bites all at once. Since using this I only get 1 or 2 bites each summer. I use it after showering.
Someone else asked this question on answerbank last year and reported back after their holiday that they had used Avon skin so soft to great effect.

Are you serious, is this really true, PinkcowP?
So why not rinse after a shower / bath with yeasty water? Will this work too?
I find these old wives cures amazing. Who was the first person to think, "I know. I'll try rubbing toast on myself to see if that cures it".

As said a course of Vit B started a few weeks before you go. Yeast tablets I hear are Vit B also Marmite. Avons skin so soft. Stay away from bars with vegitation and water features.
