does it have to go in a suit case?

If not use a suit carrier.

If you do, carefully fold it between two flat but rigid items (as big as or bigger than the suit folded) in your case.

Many thanks. Flying so it'll have to go in the case I'm afraid. BB
Turn the suit coat inside out... straighten the lapels so they're unfolded. Button the suit coat and turn it on its face on a table or bed. Fold the arms along the back and then place a single layer of newsprint on the coat before finally folding in half bottom to top. Simply fold the trousers in half or thirds and place on top of the previously folded coat. Not as difficult as my description makes it sound. Remove the coat at the destination and after unpacking it to normally hung dimensions, hang it in the bathroom. You can forgo the newsprint if the suit is light colored...
