I would like to go on the Lhasa Tibet train to Xian China It sounds a facinating way to cross the Himalayas however I am getting on in years and I wonder if anyone has done this trip and can give me any advice. Thanks

if you're flying to Lhasa and leaving by train, the acclimatisation to altitude will be more abrupt than if it's the other way round. I believe the train has oxygen flasks on board; but I haven't been on it.
