I am assuming you don't mean customs, you mean security. No you cannot take drinks. In fact you can't take liquids, lotions or toiletries of any kind (including eg toothpaste, creams) unless in containers smaller than 100ml, and all inside a small 1 litre capacity plastic bag. Not sure about sandwiches; you may be OK.

also what about colouring pencils for the kids?felt tips?are they allowed?thanks
Pack your make up in your checked luggage and you can take any size containers you want. There is no need to take your make up bag in hand luggage.

Food is not liquid so should not be an issue.

My son has taken crayons through but I would avoid large felt tips which could be construed as containing liquid.
As has been stated, food is not normally classified as a liquid but it's just possible that certain sandwich fillings might fall into the 'liquids' category. (My thinking is that toothpaste counts as a liquid, so perhaps peanut butter might also?).

Mascara and lipsticks are both definitely included within the 'liquids' category. Any liquids taken through security must be in containers of no more than 100ml. (NB: It's the size of the container that counts, not the actual amount of liquid inside it. You can't, for example, take a 200ml bottle of suntan lotion through, even though it's clearly less than half full).

All of your liquids have to be enclosed in a single, clear resealable plastic bag, no greater than about 20cm by 20cm. That's a single 'sandwich-sized' bag.

Pens and pencils seem to present no problem. I've usually got several in my flight bag and I've never been challenged.

Have taken sandwiches and no problems with the fillings. If you turn a pot of peanut butter upside down it doesnt flow out. Come to that neither does mascara, but I have had that taken off me. I asked for it back along with other make up and shoved it in a nylon bag and checked it in. (This was at Pisa airport).
You can take sandwiches, yes.

But only the teeny amounts of liquid as already stated.

Taking your own sandwiches saves you from the minging airline food.

As Hannibal Lecter said to the boy on the plane ...

"Never eat the airline swill"

(as he tucked into his snack of fresh figs and human brain).

btw ... figs are great as an in-flight snack.

Go easy on the brain, though.
