I am a smoker and usually cruise with P&O...........there is no smoking in the cabins......unless you have a balcony to smoke on. You can smoke in one half of one of the bars and in certain areas of the decks. It goes without saying that the restaurants, theatres, and cinemas are non-smoking. Smoking was clamped down on in January 2008 and I must admit certainly diminished my enjoyment of my holidays.
Where you can smoke aboard shiop depends on the cruise line.

thanks for your answers - another question now! My husband is over 50 but im not for a couple of years so would we be able to go on a saga cruise or do we both have to be over 50?
Still travelling, Busy Bee? ;-)

Quote:
"Sagas cruise ships are exclusively for travellers aged 50 and over, which means there are no children or teenagers on board. A travelling companion or family member travelling with you may be aged 40 or over."

PS
Another quote:
"On all cruises departing after March 18, 2009 aboard Saga Ruby and after April 19, 2009 aboard Saga Rose, smoking will not be permitted anywhere on the ships apart from in the North Cape Bar on Saga Rose and South Cape Bar on Saga Ruby at designated tables only. Smoking will also be allowed on the open decks on port side only. Pipes and cigars will only be permitted on the open decks."
