My son has planned his holiday to Japan as only he can.
I have been so excited for him as he hasnt had an easy year.
His flight from Edinburgh to Heathrow was delayed due to Heathrow being fogbound.
He has now taken off and should be in Heathrow now
Thing is -if the flights couldnt land would they delay the outbound flights also because of fog???
He now potentially has a window of 30 mins to catch his ongoing BA flight -both flights BA -do you think they would postpone the flight because of the circumstances???

If it looks as if there could be poor visibility then yes, the flights will be delayed.
Outward flights may be delayed also but as soon as they were able to, they would start outgoing flights. This may mean that your son would have missed his connecting flight but he will be able to get another one. Airports deal with this all the time.

Just checked again -his flight landed in Terminal 5 at 13.23 and the flight to Nakitu (Tokyo) left at 13.49 from Terminal 5 so heres hoping -will post once I know he's safely there -what a shame for this to happen -but what can you do.

I have texted him and no reply -so its looking good -fingers crossed -he so deserves this .
Don't worry too much as they cater for this type of thing - better he gets there later then never is what I would say.
I live near Cambridgeshire and the fog was terrible this morning you could not see beyond 200 yards in front of you. The traffic was bad too.

He has just phoned -he missed his flight but is waiting to see if he can get the 15.45 flight -thanks for keeping me updated cos I am a bit fractious ATM -to say the least lol
I thought he had managed to get his flight but apparently its now chaos in Heathrow because of all the missed connecting flight -thers q's of very unhappy customers as their flight couldnt be taken by Heathrow but the flight were still departing on time -we're taling mayhem her -thankfully he is still calm -dont know if I would be.

I dont understand why they couldnt accept flight but could depart them -theres people there -like my son -who have spent literally thousands only to be let down -diesnt make sense to me at all.
Terminal 5 is huge, so although he'd of taken the flight from the same terminal they probably had passed the boarding time and your son would've had to go through arrivals and then make his way to departure again, which, depending on whereabouts on term 5 it was, it could've delayed him more.
Hope that makes sense! At least you've spoken to him & all is well. At least he's calm. I'm sure it'll be worth it when he gets there!

Latest update -he missed the second flight because of the chaos there -so he is now booked on a flight to Hong Kong -(just hope gravy isnt near there lol) and then get a connecting flight to Tokyo with a 3hr wait.

Its like whats he says -BA have done all they can -its an impossible situation -at least he can get thre but what was going to be a 1hr flight with a connection to an 11 hr flight has now been a 4hr delay/flight and then a 4hr wait then an eleven hr journey then a 3hr wait and another 4hr flight -so what was going to be 15 hr travelling in total has now turned into a 25 hr journey -at least he is getting there tho -thats the main thing -not like those poor souls who were stranded for days (:

Thanks JD for sticking with a mum who has been at her wits end lol
you're very welcome - i've got 2 boys too & i'm the same being a mum! lol

gravi wasn't going to be going was he?

Gravys there !!

Still havent heard from him -I am now at my wits end -he would have been quicker going to Australia.

Phoned BA and as he wasnt an unaccompanied minor they cant tell me anything apart from confirming they dont fly HK to Tokyo -but 'some airline will have taken him'.

Its hellish when you have no clue and cant get any info -prr soul -he so deserved this holiday -he had it planned to a T -and its cost a lot but its not the money its the fact that when he tries to do something positive for the first time in a year this happens -im gutted.

Will keep ya posted when I hopefully hear from him- asap preferably

Hey JD -can maybe sleep and even better be sober now.

He is only there for a week -so hes lost a day but hey it was a spare day anyway -it hasnt affected his itenery and he sounded really upbeat whn I spoke to him and think he was relieved that he had got me off his back cos he knew I would be beyond myself -he just wants his holiday to start now and I cant wait to see all his photos and get his Emails.

Thanks again for being there with me-you are a gem xxxxx

I'll keep ya posted just for fun now -lol x
Thanks girl!
for future use! -- It's very likely the outbound flights will be effected too.. air traffic will hit flights with delays to control the number of flights departing/arriving. And personally i wouldn't risk 30min connection time without contacting someone at heathrow. Its a big big airport!!! An hour is a minimum!

Hi lee -he had his flight booked to leave for Heathrow leaving at 09.05am -for the connecting flight departing Heathrow at 13.45.
He was travelling BA and they organised this -he was left with a good window for his connecting flight.Little did he know that he would still be sitting on the plane at midday in Edinburgh -its sods law -Heathrow was fogbound -it was chaotic when he arrived -people had missed connecting flights to Australia and America.
To add to it -he flew from HK to Tokyo and only told me today that they flew in a typhoon and that it was terryfying -plane plummetted -lost presssure and the lights went out and 'soothing' music was played -the plane was all over the shop -so his journey took in excess of 26hrs.What an experience !!!

Good thing is -he loves Tokyo and although he has lost a day he isnt bothered as he is still on track with his itinery !!
