My husband and I are going to Italy in a couple of months on a holiday that I won on a T.V programme. 2 nights in Florence and 2 nights in Siena. The hotels are very posh 5 star ones. Question one is, having never stayed in anything like this before, who do we tip and how much and can I wear jeans. Secondly we have tickets to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Any ideas of other things to see or do? Thanks

The essentials are the Ponte Vecchio bridge across the Arno with it's little shops and of course the Accademia Gallery to see the original statue of David. It's a lovely city and not very large so easy to see the important things. Fiesole a village on the hillside overlooking Venice is great for views.

I'm sure jeans will be permissable in the hotel but only the hotel themselves can tell you if they have any rules. I would say however that Florence is a very fashionable city and it is possible to wear jeans and a casual look without looking like a backpacker. The shops are very good - take some money to stock up on Autumn/Winter clothes. Florence is one of the cities that the fashionista's go to to see what's in the shops - along with Paris & New York.

well done

you'll be gld when you get there that you have tickets already for the Uffizi ! there is always a very long queue to get in! i would recommend if you plan to visit any other museums or galleries that you try to book in advance for tickets!
Visit the Accademia to see Michelangelo!
take a stroll across the pont vecchio
the open top tour bus is a great way to see florence if you get a 24 hour ticket you can hop on and off at certain points of the tour what we did was went all the way around on the tour and on the way back just jump off where we wanted to see, we got our moneys worth as we used it more like public transport LOL
Enjoy!
