My daughter has asked to go to France on holiday this year as she wants to practice her French. Though I don't mind going to the coast, I had a lot of holidays in the Vendee as a child and would like to see a different part of France. I fancy Eastern France but want a reasonable climate as we will be camping and I'm worried there won't be much for the kids. They're happy with a decent pool on a camp site, but is there much for kids in that part of the country? If not, ant suggestions for other parts of France please? I don't want to have to drive for more than about 6 hours from a ferry port.

I've been looking at a map of France and I can't really match up 'Eastern France' with 'no more than 6 hours from a ferry port'. So here's a possible alternative:

Do most of your driving in the UK, and head to Plymouth. Take the Brittany Ferries service to Santander:

You're then less than 3 hours drive from Biarritz. Stay here

and explore the Cte Basque.

Fantastic camp site at Hourtin Plage on the Cote d'Argent with swimming pool and games room etc for kids. Great beach and surf in easy walking distance and should be just about 6 hours from Cherbourg.
