The airline won't know.
Customs won't know.

US Immigration might know - I don't know if visa refusals are entered in their system. Safer to assume they are.
I would not risk it with the US it is quite tight security - i just came back and one old woman i met from england was kept aside as they said her finger prints didnt match her from last time she was there - she must have been 70 but it was sorted out - they do the iris and finger print on the way in now as well
well, I'm not 100% about this, but it would make sense to keep a record and update immigration of those who've been refused a visa...otherwise, you could apply, get refused and then travel anyway.

They would certainly keep a record at the embassy, and paperwork is forwarded to the US.

If your friend was stopped, it's not a pleasant experience
C'mon USA is the birthplace of computers & internet.....what they dont know isn't worth knowing!

Dont risk travelling without the visa......you could appeal to the embassy to waive the refusal......he'll have to promise (big-time) to be a good boy!

U may have to carry a big stick to keep him in line!
