On arrival in Istanbul, join the queue and get a visa at the visa desk before you go to passport control. You will need 10 in sterling (not Scottish notes) and I think they take euros now. It's no problem, just a formality. They will stick a stamp in your passport.
Just another thought, because of the enormous inflation in Turkey, be careful with the lira notes (in millions); they are very confusing. Guide books will tell you to take lots of US dollars but this information is a bit out of date; euros (banknotes and coins) are preferred these days. Help people out by offering to change their coins into notes so that they can change them at the bank.
