We went last year in April and the weather was glorious the whole time we were there. We did the Grand Canyon trip and as part of their talk, they said that the metal bars outside on the viewing area get so hot around the July/August time that you cannot physically touch them. Obviously I can only go by my experience, but I don't think I would want to be there in the summer,.
I went there once in early April and it was still a bit nippy - you're up quite high. Also rather cloudy, though that's not too terrible. Late April or May should be good; skip summer; by September it should be bearable again. But nothing's guaranteed these days.
