I am going to spain on the 15th august and returning on the 22nd august, my passport runs out on the 27th August can i still travel?

Yes.
Some web sites say about visiting Spain:

Passport valid for at least three months beyond length of stay required by all nationals of countries referred to in the chart above (which includes Britain) except:
(a) 1. EU nationals holding a valid national ID card.
It never ceases to amaze me how people let their passports get close to expiry THEN ask if they'll be OK.
You can renew a passport up to 6 months before it runs out without loss of time on it, so why wait?!
A UK citizen's passport IS a valid EU national ID card, so the 3 month rule doesn't apply.

Indeed Spain has a rule (or did - I haven't been able to verify it recently) that UK and German citizens (but no others) are OK with a recently expired passport.

Your worries (if any) are not with the Spanish authorities but with an ignorant or badly trained airline check in clerk.
