Finally decided to get hitched so now desperately thinking of places to go on a honeymoon. We'll be going in June'08, with a budget of around 750-1000 (more if I can do more overtime) for 2 weeks (ideally). We're not ones for spending all day everyday on a beach, so we're looking for somewhere to go with a variety of attractions. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Forgot to clarify, the budget was per person. Thanks!
Sorry Pengy - is that to include spending money also??
I am going to come in with something right over budget here but worth considering. I had the most fantastic trip to kenya earlier this year and a friend was there in June last year and although got some rain (as we did ) the weather on the whole was good. I feel we did all we wanted to do on this trip and it cost about 1500 per person so you could cut back a bit. This included 2 safaris(one flying), eating out even though we were all inclusive, and a dolphin trip. I could not have before believed we could have had such a fantastic trip for that price. On the other hand going to Croatia later this year - have booked flights accom and trips etc and the budget is around 700 - looks absolutely beautiful place and if the budget could have been bigger (perhaps your 1000) it could have been planned to be even better. I had been happy with what I had seen before booked but the more i look into it the better it gets!! My colleague is off to Switzerland this June for his honeymoon - looks a great trip with some travelling and seeing the sights but not sure of their budget.
I fancy Orlando for mine as I am a big kid at heart, and then onto New York or Vegas.

You could to the west coast of the USA. Driving and stopping in nice bits
mr_woo and I went to Costa de la Luz in South West Spain for honeymoon in 2004. Its in the Andalucia region & isn't (or wasn't) as developed as other parts of Spain. We stayed about 45mins from Portugese border in a small resort called Isla Canela, we stayed for 2 weeks and saw parts of Spain and Portugal. The weather was fab (August). Seville was absolutely beautiful, mr_woo had to wrestle the camera out of my clammy palms! Perfect area for relaxation and a bit of sightseeing.
p.s it cost 850p.p

Wow! Some fantastic ideas there.

thedelbwa - thats not including spending money, hoping to scrape some aside for that.

joannie10 - Kenya is somewhere I thought about and I'm sure it can be tailored to budget. Friends of mine had a honeymoon there and said it was amazing. Nice to see another endorsement. Croatia is a possibility as well. I went to Switzerland a few years ago as I love climbing up on the glaziers. However, don't think Mrs Pengy would be too impressed - not her thing! Cheers

shineybomb - We did Orlando last year - fantastic! NYC and west coast definately appeal as well (Mrs Pengy would love the shopping!). Did think about driving Route66 - that would be fantastic! But overbudget unfortunately :-(

pixie_woo - Spain and Portugal sound like a nice place to go too, though with it being relatively close I think we'd want to avoid the typical British spots, thought you seem to have done well. I'll bear that one in mind.

Cheers eveyone - appreciated! Anymore before I head to the travel agents?
Italy is lovely but expensive. My Husband and I went to Zante for two weeks on our honeymoon four years ago, then spent a week travelling round Scotland. It was lovely. Think we spent more the week in Scotland than we did for two weeks in Zante. We are not beach people either so enjoyed the warm weather and the sights. We hired a car so that makes a difference.
Have a wonderful honeymoon anyway.
I would suggest Italy too. Sorrento is beautiful and romantic and not to far to fly after a wedding, when you will be exhausted from the day and also from all the arrangements beforehand. There are hotels there for all sorts of budgets. We stayed at the Hotel Michelangelo. The food was absolutely to die for and was in walking distance of the town centre, bars, shops etc, but was also quiet and peaceful to sleep. Have a great time!
The Travel Collection - who I've been with many times do some well priced trips with good sightseeing - e.g
Sarawak in Borneo 10 nights - 6 nights the Hilton Kuching & 4 nights Hilton Rainforest Lodge (both hotels have a pool) - June 07 795 per person - plus 4 night beach extension for extra 120. Its a fab holiday and the hotels were great, I did it last year. There are some good included excursions too to see Orang Utans etc. and also more optional ones It won't be much much more expensive next year.

Or:
Singapore 4 nights then on to Bali for 7 nights is 900 in June 07 or Singapore 4 nights, Penang 7 nights 870

Have a look at their website www.travelcollection.co.uk They belong to Kuoni.

The only drawback is that they only offer dates for about 6 months ahead on most holidays so you would have to wait until December or January probably to get a June 08 booking. Some holidays they run all year though, year in year out.

I've been with them to the Maldives(a cruise) ,Ecuador, Nepal, Borneo ( twice) etc etc

Take a look at this website I've found. I've booked for November 08 so I'm sure you'll beable to book for June. We're going to Brisbane for 3 weeks for 2300, inclusive of flights, transfers and a flat on the beach. November is coming up to Australia's summer so it's a little more expensive so I think June might be cheaper. There are loads of other places to go including Maldives,Thailand,Kenya,Mauritius. Also Cyprus,Maderira,Malta,Tenerife. All the hotels are 4 or 5 star and there are some really plush one's. There is also a free week option on some of them so you could get 3 weeks for the price of 2.

Cheers everyone. Some great suggestions there. Similar to what I was thinking myself, but nice to hear other people suggestions and recommendations. Thanks to those who took the time to write - appreciated.
Greece, one of the Greek islands.
Very romantic and plenty of history.
My fav is Mykonos or Ios but sure there quite busy with nightlife nowadays.
But any of the cyclades islands, that way you can catch a ferry for day outings or even for a night if you prebook accomm.
