For the last 5 years we have gone to Puerto Pollensa in Majorca.

Pretty town on the bay which is popular with families. Therefore no gangs of teenagers on pub crawls.
Lots of nice bars and restaurants.

Have a look at this site

Plenty of info re resort and hotels etc.

Pauln - you stole my thunder, i would have said exactly the same, we have been there now 3 times and it really is a magical place. We like the beach (Puerto Pollensa) for daytime - and the old town (6km away - Pollensa) which is just great for families with the main plaza surrounded by bars and super resturants (Il Gardinio - divine food). The kids all play togrther under the shade of the trees, it's full of spanish taking the evening air and catching up on the day, well if it's good enough for the locals it's good enough for us. it's acutally a very 'upmarket' town. as for places to stay then the best hotel in Puerto Pollensa would be illa d'or - even if you don't stay there, stroll along the pine walks for a sundowner - sheer bliss (wish i was there now, oh well only have to wait till July!!!) hope this helps.
The only advice I can give on Majorca is be very vigilant with you belongings. My partner and I were on a coach to Palma and we were the victims of a pickpocket. We were oblivious to this, my partners bag was in front of her with her hand over it, that's how easy it is. The coach stopped and all these Spanish people were shouthing at us, we thought we'd done something. The next thing the thief jumped off the coach followed by 2 Spanish people, they stopped all the traffic,it was like being in a movie, and we still did'nt know until this young lad came back to the coach with her purse..... Incredible. We spoke to a Spaniard after and he was going ballistic and said that it was rife with pickpocket's targeting tourists. So be careful. It's not just on the public transport.
Majorca is gorgeous though..
I agree, Puerto Pollensa was always our favourite for a family holiday!

We have stayed in both the Oro Playa and the Flora aparthotels and were pleased with both.

Here is a good review:

Yes, definately Puerto Pollensa for all the reasons previously given. Take a look at Pollensa Pines website, may give you a good idea, loads of apartments to rent which may be financially more beneficial.
cala dor is nice, the harbour has good food.dont get sucked in to going to cheeki tiki cocktail bar or any of them as they charge 7.50 for cocktails with very little alcohol in them. no football shirts.very chic at night so get you best clogs on
