You probably won't be able to take pesos, and from memory, you may never see one when you are there! Take US dollars or better US dollar travellers' cheques. This is just my best stab at an answer, since you have had no other response. I was there a number of years ago but the memory isn't what it used to be.
Hi, I went to the dominican to bavaro 6 years ago and went again to get married at the end of march this year and the currency hasn't changed at all. You can take dominican peso's into the country but you can't take a large amount out of the country. We took american dollars travellers cheques and also some dollars in cash. In our hotel and in higuey one of the towns we visited on the way back from a trip you paid for things with dollars but you got pesos in change. You could pay for things in peso's if you had got some. You will find that the dominicans prefer you to pay in dollars as it is worth more to them. Although it is cheaper to buy things with pesos. I bought a bag whilst we was there in march and I paid for it in dollars and got pesos change.I worked out after when we got back to our room that the bag would have been a lot cheaper if I had paid in pesos and not dollars. Hope this information helsp you out. clarelouise.
