I've found that Hertz are the best. There is a link from www.ryanair.com (I assume you will be flying somewhere.) Also if you are in the AA who also use Hertz, you should get a bigger discount. We found last year we saved about 50 by using our AA discount rather than going direct to Hertz or thro Ryanair.
In addition to above, don't be tempted by "cheap" car hire. You're best to use a reputable company especially when abroad.
aside from the obvious ones such as Hertz, Avis, Europcar, etc you could try www.easycar.com or www.holidayautos.co.uk
Even the cheapest site can, sometimes, be outdone on a one off rate quote. As a general rule of thumb HolidayAutos, because they're a broker, are the cheapest. That said, don't go direct to Holiday Autos website, instead go to www.opodo.co.uk and select car hire. They partner with Holiday Autos and in my experience the quote is always 15 pounds less via opodo than direct viaHoliday Autos website. If you want to book directly with a car rental company www.easycar.com, where available, and www.alamo.co.uk are best (Alamo is almost always cheaper than Hertz).
