I am travelling to Kenya from the UK. One of my friends was there and said they just used the normal UK 3 pin plugs - no adaptor required but when looking on the internet i have seen some adapters for Africa and although they look like 3 pin it looks as though the pin shape would be different - does anyone know for certain if usual UK plugs are ok. thanks

They use 3 pin plugs in most of southern Africa, but the pin are rounded. Not sure about Kenya. You might want to ask a travel agent.
I don't know about Kenya but I recently went to Egypt, which is also in Africa, and I needed an adapter - they were two pin plug holes not three.
According to this site http://kropla.com/electric2.htm which is regarded by some as a bible Kenya uses the same plugs as the UK.
We went to Kenya last year - it is "normal 3 pin plugs" - even on safari . remember to buy the correct plug in mossie things..Boots do both types.
