does anyone know if they have any electric sockets on the standard class coaches? I'm carrying my laptop but I need to plug it in, otherwise it goes funny and won't work properly...cheers

They have 11 different sorts of train, so difficult to answer.

I think the answer's no anyway.
i remember seeing sockets on some trains, next to a little sign saying 'not for passenger use' (or something along those lines.

dunno how vigilant the staff are though.
Class 170 turbostar trains, are diesel powered units that run out of Salisbury, They are also used on the Brighton to Reading run, and the Romsey to Totton runs. They have 230 volt 3 amp mains socket in the 1st class area only. These trains are 5 years old, and will be replaced by older class 158 / 159 class later this year, which do not have mains sockets on them anywhere. Hope this helps.
