i am traveling to cardiff soon by air what identification if any do i need

If you start within the UK then a driving licence should be a good substitute for a passport (it is okay with EasyJet, BA, BMI), but you should check the airlines website to be sure.

There are currently no border controls for entering Wales from other parts of the UK! :-)

If you are flying from abroad you will need a passport or official EU government identity card. Otherwise as CB76 says.
