Ferry booking - change of car...

Does anybody know if its crucial to notify in advance cross channel ferry companys if one intends to take a different car to the original car booked for the journey? I now want to take another car with me in August - it will still be in the same booking class - but obviously a different registration number. The terms and conditions say that alterations to bookings will incur a cost of 30-00 which I want to avoid - my presumption is that this refers to changing the date/time of travel rather than the vehicle...what do folk think?

Many thanks

tell them your car has died and you're taking a different one, should be ok if you give them new details well in advance.
I frequently travel with Condor Ferries to the Channel islands & France, & they are perfectly OK with a change to the vehicle. A couple of times I forgot which one we were taking & booked my own car in instead of my partner's, and they never even noticed (or if they did, they said nothing about it)

to be honest i cant see that changing the reg number on the booking will incur a charge...thats usually only for name changes, date changes etc.

saying that its prob only crucial to tell of changes to the car if you'd be going up a size or adding a roof rack etc...but even that wouldnt incur an amendment fee just the additional price for a bigger car

as an ex travel agent....personally i'd tell them of the change for peace of mind...dont wanna be faffing about at the port. i'd be stunned if they charged you for that

I've changed the car details before and its never been a problem. They want to know the car so they can work out its length and hence how many vehicles can be squeezed on.

...many thanks to you all for your responses...I am going to let them know for the sake of peace of mind...so I'm not whittling about it on my 5 hour drive to Dover!
Cheers.
The same thing happened to me last month - I booked a hol - crossing with Brittany Ferries and then changed my car - no size change - however the booking actually said no need to advise them of a change of car unless you were adding a trailer or a roofbox - i did and no charge was incurred.
