What is the approx. maximum bag size (not weight) for checked items when flying?

It will probably vary a bit from airline to airline and on the route flown. Have a look here for what British Airways will accept:

You have to check with the airline - there is no 100% standard rule.


One limit is 45" x 55" x 62" but it's not universal.


As above, but some airlines will even accept surfboards. Best to check the airline's website, and if in doubt, phone them up.
