I went round India four years ago and was fine with sterling traveller cheques, they are just as accepted as dollar traveller cheques and far safer than cash. Still it was always a trauma going to any Indian bank. However, i'd imagine there's been more tourist exchange places opening up over the years.
Ther are many exchnage centres in India. Depends on where you are going in India. The big cities are fine and are quite equipped to handle tourist. Nevertheless, you can exchange some cash in the airport for your taxi, food etc and you can change the rest of your travellers cheques at your hotel. Please take a prepaid taxi from the airport to avoid extra payment to the taxi guy . India is beautiful. Have fun. Sanch
Traveller cheques please or Indian rupees
