hi everyone

just wondered if anyone can tell me what is acceptable to wear in Luxor, Egypt? Im going there on holiday in the summer but ive heard rumours that little shorts and bikini's would get me funny looks or even into trouble! please dont say i have to wear trousers and long sleeve tops, i do that enough here in the UK. This question has sort of been answered on this site already but i wondered if anyone had any personal experiences with what they have worn in Luxor.

you'd prob be better advised not to walk round luxor in a bikini top to be honest. the beach resorts of the red sea are obviously a diff matter but really in cairo/luxor etc it may be better to at least cover your shoulders...you wont have to wear long sleeves or anything and as for the bottom half shorts should be okay but if you intend going into any museums or religious sites itd be advisable to wear maybe a long skirt or at least a decent length sarong
Definately wouldn't wear bikinis/little shorts when you are out and about in Luxor - you will get a lot of unwanted attention! But don't feel that you have to cover yourself up completely - t-shirts/strappy tops would be fine with longer shorts or cropped trousers. I would also recommend you buy a shawl to cover your shoulders - actually helps you keep cooler and then you can cover up if necessary. Have a great holiday!! :o)
