BARCELONA a great place to spend a few days, there is so much to see, try to be based near las ramblas it such a lively area with a market and mime artistes, plenty of bars and cafes you can go on the bus tourisico and can hop on and off as often as you like, Visit park guell and sagrada famillia a great cathedral and plenty of other things to see,it doesn't cost much on the bus from the airport to the centre, there are plenty of police so you feel safe, They even leave the tables and chairs outside overnight, how mad is that, can't think of any part of Britain you can do that without some silly ****** putting them through a window. The only word of caution BEWARE PICKPOCKETS in crowded areas, Have a great time wherever you end up going
Seville is beautiful, full of lovely architecture, friendly, and loads of nice food.Preferred it to Barcelona.
Brugge Belguim is a lovely place, lots to see Venice of the North, nice places to eat, and some great Hotels.Canal boat rides, museums, and art, good shops. Well worth a visit.

Prague.

Loads to see, lovely people, good food, lots of concerts, everything close together.

Especially wonderful in December for the Christmas markets and entertainment.

Rome, simply stunning, great places to go, great food, hald decent wine

TALLINN, Estonia - a wonderful, compact, walkable city, still relatively untouched, but by no means backward. Beautiful people, fantastic modern bars (like Stereo), 800 years of history, medevial restaurants, cobbled street and alleys in the Old Town, fantastic views from Toompea Hill, Saku beer, reasonable prices, airport 10 minute taxi from the centre for 5, ....

I could go on all afternoon. If you do go, eat in Olde Hansa (www.oldehansa.ee), and stay in The Three Sisters (www.threesistershotel.com).

Also, Helsinki - the capital city of Finland - is only 90 minutes away by fast ferry, and makes an easy day trip. It's not that pretty, and bloddy expensive, but if you are that close, it's worth a day to say you've been there.

As previously mentioned Barcelona is FANTASTIC! Great shopping, beaches close by, good nightlife, fab architecture, fountains, football, people watching.

Other than that i adore Florence. Again great architecture, galleries and shopping. Very romantic too. Being Italy the food is top class although can be a ltitle pricey sometimes. Its a compact city so you can get about on foot. Highly recommended. Pisa is only an hour or so away so you could take a train ride to see the Leaning tower.

I'd have to agree with Rome as being one of the best places to go . So much to see there , The Vatican and St Peters is worth the trip alone , no matter what your religion. A weekend mighten be long enough though to really see it , I was a week there and didn't see everything .
naples italy if you want to see the real italian way of life naples is the place plus a 3 euro trainride will take you to the beautifull neighbouring resort of sorrento very romantic

OMG! Thanks for all your help. Italian cities seem to be tops. Rome or Naples, Florence? But Barcelona seems different. Also I have found the flights are cheaper to fly there. I have a budget so eating out would have to be reasonable. It would be nice to see a city thats very different and lots to see without costing the earth. Prague in Spring sounds nice and unspoilt. I am surprised nobody mentioned Venice. It does come up as very expensive in the City Breaks though.

Barcelona was a delight - the Catalans however IMO are not the friendliest europeans.

I loved Milan and I know Copenhagen is not Europe but its very accessable and we have been twice and absolutely adored it.

If all else fails we go Amsterdam every year and its beautiful and vibrant and everything you could want in a city.

Sorry - I cant give details on each city but we just wing it each time and we find thats the best way.

Just in case you are misled by the typographical error above - Copenhagen is in Europe (including the European Union).
KARL - That was me - I did think about that but thought it was Scandinavia geographically speaking.Oops!
Definitely Barcelona. Went there last Sept and can't wait to go back again.
Why not try Gothenborg in Sweden, known as "little London"it does have a charm of its own with quite a lot to see,a nice combination of new and oldieworldy shops, clean and well kept and most people can speak English, used to be expensive but not any more, many things are cheaper than the UK.
Yes Barcelona, you must go on the open top bus .. it takes three hours without getting off ! Also Dublin and Rome.

Sounds good. Two days and plenty to see.

Barcelona is great all round but for scenery you can't beat Stockholm-but it is very expensive!

If you like shopping and beer then you should go to Dublin or Edinburgh-fantastic cities!

Oh and if you do go to Barcelona you must visit Mount Tibidabo for fantastic views of the city.
Don't forget Birmingham
