I hope someone can help me out here.I'm planning a trip to Newcastle next Friday & plan to be staying till the Sunday.I will be travelling by Coach so i'll be arriving at the Coach Station on St James Boulevard St.I have 2 questions.1.Is this near Newcastle City Centre for example the Metro Centre?.2.Are there any B&B's near by or Hotels.I'm not looking for something that is expensive. If anyone can help that would be great.

the coach station is in the city centre, 10mn walk from central rail station. metro centre is not in the city centre, but is a little way away. see http://www.metrocentre-gateshead.co.uk/pdf/pt_guide.pdf for transport guide to the centre.

It is pretty much right in the centre of Newcastle. Right next to the train station & a few minutes walk from all the shops, bars etc.

Don't know of any B&Bs but the brand new Holiday Inn Express (from 50+ including breakfast) is just around the corner from the coach station. As is the new Jurys Inn (about 65+ but not sure if that includes breakfast).

Further away, near the Quayside is the Premier Travel Inn (approx 60+ not including breakfast) and the Travelodge (approx 70+ not including breakfast).

Only thing is I don't know whether there will be any availability at such short notice. Worth a look tho.

If you have no luck with those there is the very basic but unbelievably cheap Formula 1 (25 not including breakfast). This is not in the city but is a straightforward 20 minute metro ride (+ 5 min walk to the hotel) from the main train station.
