What is the significance of the unusual fences next to the M25 around junction 10?

I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine they would be to reduce traffic noise for anyone living nearby.

I assume they are to do with traffic noise but why are there so many different types on that one stretch of road? Is it part of an experiment?
i think they're an experiment to do with Air Quality. I really ought to know as I'm an air quality consultant! I'll try and find out!
As I am a driver and drive past these whenever I need to get to J12 (from J1) I would be really interested to see if "fences" make any difference to the polution my 980cc car and all the rest of the polution pumping lorries and cars makes to the local community.......please tell us more rja11077!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!
