Does anyone know of a cheap B+B (2 adults + 13 yr old) or a caravan on a Haven site? I cannot afford to pay the ludicrous 600-700 they charge for the summer school holidays on a Haven site.

You could consider taking your own towed caravan to the same site, you get all the same facilities. Lots of people who own static caravans on those sites hire them out privately, advertising in Trade-It and local papers. Good luck (I've been there several times & like the proximity to the beach & town particularly).
Although the web is a wonderful source of information, there are types when you can't beat good old-fashioned paper. January is the month when most tourism brochures are published. These are full of lists of B&B's (and you might also find information about private hire of caravans). Your local Tourist Information Centre might be on the distribution list for the various Somerset brochures but, if not, you can get hold of them as follows:

Minehead:
Tourism Section, 20 Fore Street, Williton, Somerset. TA4 4QA
Tel: 01643 702624
Email: [email protected]

Burnham:
Tourism Unit, Bridgwater House, King Square, Bridgwater, Somerset. TA6 3AR
Tel: 01278 787852
Email: [email protected]

Weston:
Destination Management Team, North Somerset Council, Winter Gardens, Royal Parade, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1AQ
Tel: 01934 888800
Email: [email protected]

You can search for accommodation around Weston here (but you'll probably find far more information in the printed brochure):

For the Burnham area, see here:

You could probably get a Travelodge or similar in the area inland for 50 a night. Assuming your figures are per week, that's half price.

Hope this helps Hilary...

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. The Daltons site was particulary helpful and I have actually booked a weekend at a guest house found on there. Thanks :-)
