Has anyone had their passport renewed lately ? We have a trip planned to Japan in Dec.,for 3 weeks, my passort runs out in Feb. when we would be back. Entering Japan is ok because they only require it to be valid during my stay there, but am a bit concerned about my return to Spain. I have a residency card, but apparently 6 mnths is needed on passports. Maybe I woud be ok having a TIE, but it's difficult to find out. My fear is that I wouldn't get my new passport back in time id I apply now. One hears such shocking stories about long delays. Any comments ?

is it a UK passoert you need or a spanish one?
Are you applying from Spain? Renewed grandsons from Portugal a month ago. Took 3 weeks and got emails About every 3 days giving status reports.
How long does it normally take for you in spain ? i would have thought you will deffo have it back by december - that's 9 months away
I think the current estimate for delays is up to 12 weeks.
Yes ours took about 3 weeks in all after applying online. (In UK) As Calmck says we had regular updates. No problems
Remember to factor in the 5 weeks of strike action (plus, of course, any further strikes which might follow at a later date):

I renewed mine last year (also long hold-ups) reported. I just went along to the local main P. Office and they did the lot for about £15 more & sent it off. 10 days later the new one arrived.

If important - I'd do what I did.
I recently renewed mine online and it was very quick. But there is a strike looming, so I'd apply ASAP and I wish you good luck.

Thanks for all your advice. I think I will apply in April. I can't do it at a PO jourdain2, I live in Spain.

Well I have just applied on-line. Will send my old one to Peterborough registered express this afternoon. Maybe, just maybe it will get processed before they go off on their jaunt. Wish me luck !

Just received my new passport! It took 4 weeks in all, from sending off the old one to receiving the new. One thing less to worry about.
