Is this compulsory or can we check in at Southampton? It’s all too much for me …. We will take everything needed, i.e. passports Covid Passport, PCR results. Is this just to make life easier at the port?

Probably to make life easier. Same as airports. For exact advice call the company
It would help if you told us which cruise company you're travelling with. There are 18 different cruise lines using Southampton!

Celebrity.
I think that you need to download the app. and you cannot check in online until 45 days before sailing. Friends of our were held off from checking in right up until 14 days before sailing. Have you checked with Celebrity as to whether online check in is available?
Well, I've just wasted about 20 minutes looking through all of the FAQs, and other potentially relevant pages, on the Celebrity Cruises website but I'm still none the wiser really!

All that's there is this:
"[Q] How do I check in for my cruise?

[A] The quickest way is to use the Celebrity Cruises® app, available between 90 days and three days before your sail day. Just sign in, select your cruise, and tap on the check-in button. Make sure you take your security photo and add your passport or travel documents for the fastest boarding experience on your sail day."

The reference there to 'the quickest way' suggests that there is actually an alternative method but nowhere on their website do they actually tell you what it is!

However I have, at least, found a UK phone number for you to call: 0344 493 2043. Lines are open Monday - Friday: 09.00 - 20:00, Saturday: 09:00 - 18:00 and Sunday: 10:00 - 17:00. Calls are charged at the same rate as calls to 01 and 02 numbers are, from both landlines and mobiles. So, if you've got spare 'included minutes' on your phone package, the call will actually be free.
Ohh btw ... have a nice cruise. Hope you checked out who the "guest speakers" are. :))
Very good, Togo:)
the slower way presumably involves shuffling forward in a queue, filling out forms and having your photo taken?
I would ring the company and ask them. This year i was nearly refused entry on a cruise because my paperwork was wrong, so i advise you to check all you need carefully.

Thank you all so much, have had trouble with them picking up the call so gave up, l will try again with that number… I have been ringing the Weybridge office. I am more concerned about booking the PCR or Antigen test , we are going 21 April and they don’t seem to know yet on their website what we need to do. Haven’t travelled since Covid purely because of all these extra things we have to do now.

Togo…. Who are the guest speakers …. Someone boring?.
Missed your query Smurfchops but Sanmac has it covered. :))
Enjoy your cruise, Smurfchops.
Where are you going?
By the way, I also wish you a happy holiday. It would be interesting to know your itinerary .

The guest speaker on our last cruise was Paul Burrell …. Didn’t bother going to see him, as there would have been a list of questions that just wouldn’t be allowed to be asked. Seemed nice and friendly enough during the week’s cruise, though, not snobby at all.

Tilly, Vigo, Porto, La Coruna, Bilbao, Bordeaux. Looking forward to it. Had to cancel it two years ago.
That sound like my sort of cruise Smurfchops. A bottle of Alvarinho(Vigo), a Don Antonia(Porto), a large Mencia (La Corona), a heady Rioja( Bilboa) and a St Emilion from Bordeaux. Cheers.
