We're going on a two week holiday to Sharm el Sheikh and I know we don't need a visa to travel around Sharm but we might do a trip to Petra in Jordan. Do we need an Egyptian visa to get in and out of Egypt?

Hi there I am off to Sharm in 3 weeks, appartently Sharm falls in the EU and to venture out you will need a Visa, thats for Ras Mohammed National Park and others. You may wish to ask the immigration officials at Sharm air port, if you decide against going outside Sharm, just mark the back of your card with Sinai only.

Sharm in the EU?? Is that for real?

Thats what my travel agent told me, sounds bizarre I must admit.

You need a visa for egypt, however you can get this on arrival for about 10 each. There is no problem you travelling to Jordan for a day trip loads of operarors will sort this for you when you get to Sharm. Things have simplified themselves alot recently at both the Israeli and Jordanian borders. Be prepared for a very long day if you do go to Petra (you get about 2-3hrs at Petra). Its worth the effort because its such an amazing place, however better still is to holiday in Jordan and have 2-3 days in Petra, which is what you really need to do it justice.

Happy Holidays!
