"Anyway, it's nice to see that EU citizens living over here will still be able to use the NHS" - they can because we are a civilised nation.
You're welcome.

TTT, you're making a bit of an ass of yourself, I have personal experience of how it worked, and it was very good. I shan't bother correcting any more silly posts from you.
i have more experience of the Worlds barbarity on healthcare than all of yo put together me old china, If anyone is looking like a wally it's you. I wont go into cases because many on here have heard them. Almost the entire world is private, even yerp. tell you what athiest tell me your experience?
Wheesht now, it's getting embarrassing
here is a film by Michael Moore, it's about the US but most of the rest of the world, especially Yerp is the same:

Tora - Atheist's question was 'UK Global Health Insurance Card', has anyone heard of this?

In a normal Q&A type of way, that question has been answered as up to date as possible.

Not sure a rant or experiences were asked for.

How about applying for a new EHIC card QUICKLY. You don't have to wait for your current one to expire; if you apply and get it approved before the end of the year it will continue to be valid until it's expiry (4 years, I think).

BHG; thanks for an interesting suggestion. I'll look into it.
BHG, it makes no difference anyway, there are hardly any hospitals that you can use one in. This is yet another way we were shafted by the EU.
I have never so far needed healthcare where EHIC mattered but my wife and several others we know have. The result was seamless attention and good service/treatment in national medical facilities in different countries. EHIC covers emergency treatment only (it is in essence travel insurance) and only under public healthcare rules (unless I am mistaken) but we have, by choice as it was non-emergency, also sought private scans, diagnosis and treatment for my wife outside the UK either in order to circumvent waiting lists in the UK or because it was not available on the NHS. In every case excellent service which puts the World's Best healthcare (NHS to you and me) to shame. Go on TTT, just one "Anti-British" badge, please - I haven't had one for at least two days.
The UK's GHIC is "on the drawing board" and as yet only the name has taken shape - as has already been pointed out.
just going by my experience karl, and it ain't the same as yours.
If people went to a European equivalent of a NHS hospital I'm sure the card would be acceptable.
The only time I needed medical treatment abroad the nearest doctor's surgery was private. I paid for the treatment and was given itemized receipts which probably could have been used if I'd wanted to claim my money back from an insurance company.
I wasn't insured then. It might be worth considering now.
None but an idiot would turn down a free card that might give you something for nothing, however little.

When I needed medical help in France I footed the bills (not big bucks) and kept the receipts. On return to the UK I was given 90% refund on what I'd spent. A very good deal in my view.
eg Luxembourg 2016, I had a minor motorcycle collision and my right leg and foot needed some stitches, I was in a bit of pain and the ambulance turned up but insisted on proof of health insurance before they'd take me to the Hospital. Presumably they'd just leave me there if I was unconscious or didn't have it. So I managed to get my wallet out of my injured leg side pocket and produced a pre prepared card with phone number and policy details. Then they called the number to check. The hospital did the same thing etc etc, barbarians. If you like I'll tell you about my sister attempting to give birth to my niece in Spain, that's a good un. Just 2 of many experiences I have with forin "health services".
athiest: "When I needed medical help in France I footed the bills (not big bucks) and kept the receipts" - so clearly they would not take the EHIC!
//How about applying for a new EHIC card QUICKLY.//

If you are a UK citizen with no dual nationality and ordinarily resident in the UK you cannot apply for an EHIC card.
NJ, I guess the door slammed shut at the end of last January ?
