I will admit to knowing very little about the seafaring life....there is not drop of Nelsons blood in me.

But does anybody know why they didn't just sail this huge yacht round, rather than go to the expense of taking it by land ?

i saw that the other day, hell of way to transport the yacht. perhaps its not seaworthy as yet.
and needs some more outfitting, don't know about from that....
my goodness..hope they don't come across any low bridges.. a 3 point turn might take a while !
Probably not had sea trials and such Mikey. Plus final fit and rigging fitted. I would think that putting a crew together would probably cost as much as a short trip overland.

Emmie....could be the fitting-out I suppose...there is very little detail in the BC link.

I don't know about being sea-worthy, but it sure isn't road-worthy either !

Could be Togo, could be !
I am glad I wasn't driving the lorry taking that.
Well done to all of them for getting it there safely.
Hope owners paid for traffic police
I believe this boat was built by Fairline Yachts, think it's a Squadron 65. Fairline are in Oundle near Peterborough,so no chance of sailing it to Ipswich. Hope that explains it.
You can't sail a yacht anywhere until you can safely get it into the water. The only hoist in the country big enough to get that boat in the water is at Fox's Marina in Ipswich (just down the road from me):

So it's not unusual to see large boats being transported along the A14 towards Ipswich. However when they get to the stretch of that road near to where I live, there are some low bridges. So the boats have to be taken off the A14 and through our High Street, which cause absolute chaos!

Thanks you two....very full and informative replies !
don't get much for two million do you?
I wouldn't say no to it.

I don't think it would fit on my drive !

It would fit on my drive but I'd keep it in a boatyard.

Oundle is quite a way inland so would be a fair old road trip to get it to water anyway so might as well do the whole trip by road.
Actually, I'd prefer a narrowboat. Then I could waste my time painting lovely, bright flowers on tin buckets and jugs.
oundle? bet there aren't many boatyards in the midlands
