Gap year!

I'm 16 and when I finish 6th form I will be 18 then I would love to take a gap year to America I have found a 9 week course for a gymnastics instructor which sounds great as im qualified, but I also would like to try being an au pair for a while and maybe working in a bar that would be great. This is just something I have to try, so how do I go about it? Oh yea and prefelably in california orange county so then I can also go to mexico for a sight seeing visit.

One word of caution... please use common sense and listen to good local advice about visiting Mexico.  The border towns , especially Tijuana, have become increasingly dangerous.  One can still visit such cities and have an enjoyable time, but a word to the wise, so to speak...Welcome, by the way!
