Do you use?

Last holiday I booked through lastminute.com. Got a good deal, nice and straight forward.

For some reason where ever I chose for my dates are not available.

Are there any other good sites to look at that do decent deals. I love a bargain :-)

I like Dial-a-flight, they're vey helpful. Last year when we were trying to get away for a week to anywhere in Europe all of the other sites had no return flights available, including BA, I rang Dial-a-flight and they got a really good deal to Cascais, in a lovely hotel and one of their reps described the hotel and the locale to me too.
According to my daughter holidaypirates is good if you're just looking for any deals going rather than planning a specific trip.
Where are you off to?

My preferred destination is Dubrovnik but I'm not actually that fussy.
Question Author
Wired...yes, I've used them years ago.

Prudie...I'll have a look.
I quite fancy Dubrovnic myself but school holiday times are a bit pricey, we might nip off to Krakow for a mini break during the Easter holidays.

I just love getting a bargain. I haven't ruled out last minute at the travel agents.

Want to go for Ginges birthday.

Went to Gibraltar last year but booked a hotel just over the border in Spain for half the price.
Don't go anywhere too hot, poor sod will roast to death.

GIB was 30+ everyday. Took him half an hour to suncream himself every morning :-)

Poor sod, I know how he feels.

On the beach seems okay.
I don't use any booking sites, we've got timeshare which we use all the time, so don't look for the deals - but I always use Tripadvisor to look at (and leave) resort and hotel reviews.
last minute cheapies can sometimes bite you -

a family who were on the same transfer bus as me last week (going skiing in Soll) bought their package on the basis of accommodation allocated on arrival, only to find they were in a chalet that could have been called "moonbase alpha", so far was it from the ski-lift - a taxi ride in fact. they protested, but the rep just pointed at the Ts&Cs that the family clearly hadn't read.

They both do bargain deals, not necessarily last minute, plus restaurant deals and other things. Get on their email lists, they send out their top 20 specials every week. I've used travelzoo holidays several times.
If can often be best to find cheap flights and book your accommodation separately, using this website to find a hotel:
http://www.hostelworld.com/
Don't be put off by the word 'hostel' in its name; you can use the filters to select only hotels or B&Bs; I found a lovely little hotel in Madrid on that website, in a superb location, with air-conditioning and free wi-fi for just €22 per night for a single room in peak season.

A quick look at that website suggests that you can find good accommodation in Dubrovnik for around £13 pppn if you don't mind sharing a bathroom or for just a little more for en suite facilities.

Unfortunately there aren't very many scheduled flights from the UK to Dubrovnik though. The only year-round service is that operated by BA from Gatwick but there are also seasonal services as follows:

from Edinburgh, Gatwick and Stansted with easyJet ;
from Birmingham with FlyBe ;

from Belfast International, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds/Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle with Jet2 ;

from Birmingham and Gatwick with Monarch ;

from Birmingham, Bristol, Gatwick, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle with Thomson.

Transfers from the airport to your accommodation aren't expensive. The bus into the city only cost 35kn (€5) or there are reasonably-priced taxis.

Mushroom...I wouldn't risk the 'allocated on arrival' option.

jno - I'll have a nosey at those later :-)

Chris - I've only ever booked separately once. I booked a small private villa in Cyprus and our friends booked into a 5* hotel. Ours was much better...
I always use eBkookers.com.
