are you on a day trip, or staying over? Means you get in a show perhaps, if there's something you want to see? Returns may sometimes be on sale at the box office, last minute.
Agree the Shard is expensive, but in my opinion, worth every penny. It was the photographs which we found to be a rip off.

And if you can get a table, try Restaurant Story.
Get a Train from Victoria to Brighton, and spend a couple of hours in JJ's Dungeon !! :-)
if money's no object, the Shard and St Paul's and/or Westminster Abbey; but London is expensive. Museums are free, though, so British Museum, V&A, National Gallery are all worth a look, and the Museum of London is excellent (just about the history of London itself).

I am going for 4 days, and wow what great ideas you are all coming up with, I will take in a theatre trip as well.
I thought the Shard was worth the money (and I don't like heights). The Tate Modern is also worth a visit, and don't forget Chinatown. Agree with BlueToffee the Shards photos were a rip off,but you don't have to buy them.
I couldn't believe the queue for the London Dungeon so went to the Clink instead and it was brilliant
My sister does a lot of these (they`re good if you are on your own, too)

Use the bus rather than the tube so you get to see more. Added advantage if you're of the right age that the Bus Pass is accepted (can't be used on tube) so travel is free

Tamaris, time of the year are you going?

I have booked the hotel for July
If you're interested in the museums I hope you've booked for early July, they get swamped once the kids break up towards the end.
Wonderful little museum, John Soane Museum, near Holborn tube. Check it out on google.
If it's July I'd deffo do the river boat trip up to Grenwich
When I have friends staying in the summer I take them on Westminster Passenger Services boat from Westminster to Hampton Court where we disembark. It`s good value (you get discount if you are using a one day travelcard). If you go all the way to Hampton Court you can walk a short distance and get the train back to Waterloo. It also stops at Kew and Richmond which are both good to visit. It takes about 3 hours and is narrated for the first hour or so. It`s a pretty ride and lovely to do on a sunny day.
SJ's suggestion^^^^ sounds really good.
